How GyanRank collects, uses, and protects your information.

1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you register as an institute, teacher, or student on GyanRank, we collect: full name, email address, phone number, institute name and address, city and state, and password (stored as a secure bcrypt hash). Institute owners may also provide additional profile information such as a description, banner image, social media links, and contact details.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use GyanRank, we automatically collect: IP address, browser type and version, device type and operating system, pages visited and time spent, exam attempt timestamps, and server access logs. This data is used for security monitoring, debugging, and improving performance.
1.3 Payment Information
When institutes purchase a subscription, payments are processed through Razorpay. GyanRank does not store your card number, CVV, or banking details. We only store the Razorpay payment ID, order ID, and subscription status for record-keeping.
1.4 Exam and Assessment Data
We collect and store exam content created by institutes and teachers, student responses and answers submitted during exams, scores, ranks, and result data, and answer sheets uploaded for PDF-based exams.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Platform Operation
We use your information to operate the GyanRank platform — to authenticate your login, display your dashboard, process exam attempts, calculate results, and publish rankings.
2.2 Communications
We may send you essential communications including exam notifications, result alerts, account security emails (OTP for login), subscription renewal reminders, and service updates. We do not send promotional marketing emails without your consent.
2.3 Platform Improvement
Aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us improve the platform's performance, design, and features. We do not use individual data for advertising.
2.4 Legal Compliance
We may use your information when required by law, to respond to legal process, to protect GyanRank's rights, or to protect the safety of users.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
3.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data
GyanRank does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes. Ever.
3.2 Within the Platform
Student information is visible to the institute the student is enrolled with and to their assigned teachers. Student names and ranks may appear in published result lists within the institute. Student data is never shared with other institutes or made publicly searchable.
3.3 Service Providers
We share data with trusted service providers who help us operate the platform: Razorpay (payment processing), email service providers (OTP delivery), and hosting/cloud infrastructure providers. All providers are contractually required to protect your data.
3.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect GyanRank and its users from fraud, abuse, or illegal activity.
4. Cookies and Tracking
4.1 Session Cookies
GyanRank uses session cookies to keep you logged in. These are essential for the platform to function and cannot be disabled while using the service.
4.2 Preference Cookies
We may use cookies to remember your UI preferences such as language and display settings.
4.3 No Third-Party Ad Tracking
We do not use Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party advertising tracking cookies on GyanRank.
5. Data Security
5.1 Technical Safeguards
We implement multiple layers of security: all passwords are hashed using bcrypt (never stored in plain text), all database queries use prepared statements to prevent SQL injection, CSRF tokens protect form submissions, HTTPS encrypts all data in transit, and role-based access control ensures users can only access their own data.
5.2 No Perfect Security
While we implement strong safeguards, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your GyanRank account and to log out when using shared devices.
6. Your Rights
6.1 Access and Correction
You can access and update your profile information at any time from your account settings. Institutes can update their institute profile, and students can update their personal details.
6.2 Data Deletion
Institutes may contact support@gyanrank.com to request deletion of their institute account and associated data. Student accounts can be removed by the institute admin. Note that some data may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as payment records.
6.3 Data Portability
You may request an export of your data by contacting support@gyanrank.com. We will provide your data in a portable format within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
7.1 Age Policy
GyanRank is designed for educational use. Students may include minors who use the platform under the supervision of their institute. Institutes are responsible for obtaining appropriate parental or guardian consent for minor students using the platform.
